THE BAND
Syd Barrett, David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, Rick Wright

Syd Barrett (Guitars, Vocals)

Full Name: Roger Keith Barrett
Birthdate: January 6, 1946
Birthplace: Cambridge, England

Roger Keith Barrett was born and raised in Cambridge, England. During his earlier years he was nicknamed Syd and the name stuck throughout his life.

As he got older, his interest in music grew. He and his friend, David Gilmour, would teach each other guitar. Gilmour was a more talented guitarist than Syd, but Syd's talents were found in his lyrics.

Syd was a founding member of The Abdabs and The T-Sets. Later on, Syd came up with the name The Pink Floyd, named after Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. Syd wrote the majority of the music for The Pink Floyd while he was in the band.

Soon after the group released two sets of singles, Syd became an avid user of LSD, due to the pressures of fame. After the singles, Syd wrote the majority of "Pipers at the Gates of Dawn", and started to write "Saucerful of Secrets". One night, the band was headed to a gig, but the band decided not to pick Syd up due to his drug habit and unpredictability. The band had Syd's old friend, David Gilmour cover for him.

Syd had only written three songs on "Saucerful of Secrets". The other songs were all written by Waters. Barrett agreed to permanently leaving the band. Later on, Syd recorded a few solo albums, which were "The Madcap Lauphs", "The Peel Session", and "Opel". Syd only performed with one other band, The Stars.

Later on, Syd decided to visit Pink Floyd during the recording sessions for "Wish You Were Here". At first noone in Pink Floyd could recognize Syd, but soon they realized who it was. Although Syd didn't play at the session, the album seems to be about him.

It is rumored that a major overdose of LSD has warped Barrett's mind so much that he is legally insane. Now he is supposedly residing in an somewhere in England.

David Gilmour(Guitars, Vocals)

Full Name: David Jon Gilmour
Birthdate: March 6, 1946
Birthplace: Cambridge, England

David Gilmour was raised in Cambridge, England. When David was 14, he borrowed a Spanish guitar from his neighbor. Gilmour's parents gave him a record called "Pete Seeger Teaches Guitar" which helped him progress more rapidly.

When Gilmour started going to the Cambridge High School for Boys, he became friends with Syd Barrett. The two friends would practice guitar together and learn Beatles and Rolling Stones songs. Once in a while, the two would do shows together. When Barrett left for art school, Gilmour joined a band called Joker's Wild.

Further down the road, Gilmour was called to fill in for Barrett because of his drug problem. Soon, Gilmour became a fulltime replacement. He wrote few songs for Pink Floyd, because Waters wanted to control every aspect of the band. While Waters was writing "The Wall", Gilmour released a solo effort. Roger left in 1985 after the band released "The Final Cut".

Gilmour along with Mason, and a little help from Wright, who Waters fired before "The Final Cut", released "A Momentary Lapse of Reason", a few years after Waters' departure. Gilmour had released another solo album during the 7 year period in which the Floyd remained silent. Then in 1994, Pink Floyd recorded "The Division Bell", with the officially re-hired Wright. After touring and releasing "Pulse", David and Pink Floyd have remained quite silent.

Nick Mason(Drums)

Full Name: Nicholas Berkeley Mason
Birthdate: January 27, 1945
Birthplace: ???

In 1965, Nick joined The Abdabs along with Roger Waters. He is the only member of Pink Floyd to appear in every album the band released. He does little writing for the group but he released two solo albums, "Profiles", and "Fictitious Sports".

Nick has another hobby besides playing the drums, which is collecting cars. He owns various cars including a F40 and 246 GTS Dino, Bugatti 35B, Alfa 2300, Ferrari 250 GTO, and Maserati 250F. He attends car shows frequently and does a bit of racing. Recently he published a book involving cars. While plugging his new book on Jay Leno, Mason denied any new releases for himself or Pink Floyd.

Roger Waters(Bass, Vocals)

Full Name: George Roger Waters
Birthdate: September 9, 1943
Birthplace: Great Bookham, England

Waters was a friend of Barrett's throughout life. In 1965 Waters joined The Abdabs. Waters did a lot of vocals and little writing during the period Syd was in the band. But after Barrett's departure, By the time "Dark Side of the Moon"Waters started to take control of the band. He wrote all the lyrics, and most of the music. Although the albums before that weren't commercial successes, Waters kept the same style of music until "Dark Side" was released. That was when Roger had the fame he hungered for.

Waters kept controlling the group with an iron fist until the release of the "Final Cut". Wright left the band and didn't perform at all on the album. That very album is basically a Waters solo album under the Pink Floyd name.

Waters' music remained dark throughout his career, due to the loss of his father in World War II. The loss of his father is portrayed in "The Wall", "The Final Cut", and other seperate songs throughout his career.

After "The Final Cut", Waters left the band, hoping Gilmour and Mason would split. However, Pink Floyd still stuck together, so Waters took them to court. Waters pressed charges to claim full ownership to everything Pink Floyd had done, but he lost. Although the dispute lasted quite a long time, Pink Floyd was still playing. Waters did too.

Roger released a handful of solo project to stay in the business, including "The Pros and Cons of Hitchiking", "Radio KAOS", and "The Wall: Live in Berlin". Later on, Waters released "Amused to Death", which didnt sell enough to please Waters.

Rumors fly around saying Roger will rejoin Pink Floyd and releasing another album, but nothing's happened. Waters has a tour planned for 1999.

Rick Wright(Keyboards, Vocals)

Full Name: Richard William Wright
Birthdate: July 28, 1945
Birthplace: London, England

At the age 20, Wright joined the Abdabs. Rick wasn't very fond of R&B, so he was glad when Syd joined the group. Rick mainly plays the keyboard and piano, but he also did some vocals and sound effects. He plated most of the piano pieces including "Great Gig in the Sky", "Us and Them", "Summer '68". Richard released his first solo album, "Wet Dream", while Waters was writing "The Wall".

During the end of "The Wall" sessions, tension between Waters and Wright increased. Wright was asked to leave the band. Wright didn't have anything to do with "The Final Cut". During the time he was out of the band, he joined a group called Zee and they released an album called "Identity".

After Waters left the band, Wright was hired as a studio musician for "A Momentary Lapse of Reason". He was not officially in the band during the recording of "The Division Bell". Wright also played in "Pulse". Wright has no information involving the future of Pink Floyd, but he plans to continue writing.
